Owen Paterson met the Chairman of the RJ & AH Orthopaedic Hospital, Gobowen on Monday to discuss the progress of their application for Foundation Status. He was extremely pleased to learn that they should achieve this in November.
He was also pleased to learn that the hospital still has no cases of MRSA and is on a good financial footing with no outside financial support. 99% of patients have rated their experience at the hospital as being either "excellent or good"; its excellent reputation is now attracting patients from outside its traditional catchment area of Shropshire and Wales
Owen said “The new freedoms being given to the NHS should help the Orthopaedic to fly. Its 1,200 strong team continue to provide outstanding care; the lack of recruitment problems reflects its reputation as an excellent place to work. I was particularly interested to hear about the scheme for school leavers which has provided 32 jobs with vocational training. I enjoyed meeting Wendy Farrington-Chadd again and have assured her that she has my full backing as the hospital completes the last stages of the process for achieving Foundation Status. I have written to the Secretary of State for Health asking that he do all that he can to make sure that the Foundation Status process completes as smoothly and as quickly as possible.”
